Sophomore Year Classes

I am going to list all of the classes that I am currently taking and also list my grades and my personal opinions about that class. I am curious to see if any of my opinions about my classes will change after the next few months, which are the most treacherous school months of the year.

ISPE - Ice Skating

Since I am a nationally ranked athlete, I do not have to take high school P.E. and use this extra time to train. Before my recent injury, I skated from 6:30 AM - 8:30 AM. Since my schools starts at 8:30, I couldn't make it there on time. Therefore with this class, it is basically a free period and allows me to fit in training. The only thing I do for this class is fill out a log where I log the hours I skate and my performance. I enjoy having this class because I can enter school peacefully while everyone else is in class and I am not bombarded with people early in the morning.

French II Honors (94.1%)

In this class, I do not get assigned much homework and rather do most of the learning inside the class. My teacher has very unique ways to teach us French, such as singing in French and doing French yoga. I enjoy this class because it feels different that the more rigorous courses, but I do not really like my teacher. She is sometimes very overwhelming and it is too early in the morning for that. I also don't like some of the students in my class, but I have friends so it makes it bearable.

Chemistry Honors (95.1%)

I actually am very surprised with myself because I would say this is my favorite class subject wise. If you asked me when I was in middle or elementary school, I would say I hated all science classes. However, I have come to actually enjoy chemistry. I really enjoy the math aspect of it and the formulas, and although the concepts are harder for me to memorize, I still enjoy learning about them and find it pretty easy. We also do labs from time to time where we use open flames, different chemicals, and tools. Although these labs are a bit boring, I still think it would be better than reading a textbook. This class has made me consider pursing a career with chemistry and maybe medicine.

English II Honors (94.5%)

The main thing that I think about in this class is how cold it is. Even if I am wearing a thick jacket and pants it still is freezing in this class. That being said, this class is alright for me, but I don't particularly find it very exciting. The books that we read as a class are usually pretty boring and tedious, and so are wiring essays. We have vocabulary quizzes bi-weekly, and write essays from time to time. My teacher is very kind and some of the activities we do are engaging and fun.

AP World History (93.8%)

I have mixed feelings for this class. Some of the content we learn is very engaging and exciting (such as the large wars) and other topics are extremely boring (anything relating to the Middle East). I will say that my teacher is not the best since he does not lecture in much detail, and he is pretty easy on us. While this does allow me to have a somewhat decent grade, it will probably harm me when I am taking the AP test. Since I am not very good at memorizing topics and details, this class is particularly hard for me, not even mentioning that it is an AP course. My favorite activities in this class are the projects that are assigned from time to time and the reenactment of World War 1 that we finished not too long ago.

Algebra II/Trigonometry (92.4%)

This class definitely just has the feel of a math class. For the most part, it is the same routine every single day. I do really like that my teacher goes into full depth when explaining topics, but sometimes it is just so easy to doze off. All of our notes are handwritten which I don't really like compared to note packets. For me, each unit is very different and some units I do extremely well and some I have no idea what I am doing. Just this past week, we finished up our last Algebra lessons and began the Trig portion. I have just been trying my best to grasp all of the topics and memorize tricks since we will be using these basics for the rest of the year and probably in the rest of my high school math classes.
