Chinese New Year

I am going to write about Chinese New Year because my parents come from China and Chinese new year is February 16th.

Here are some facts I learned about Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year is also called Lunar New Year. Chinese New Year was created to welcome spring but Chinese New Year does not happen on the same day every year because not all the time the groundhog sees his shadow.

There are 12 symbols for the Chinese zodiac. The 12 symbols are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, rooster, Dog and Pig. The year of 2018 is the year of the Dog. I was born in 2010 and I am a Tiger and my sister was born in 2014 and she is a Horse. Chinese New Year is very important because we welcome a new symbol.

A Chinese New Year tradition is putting out fireworks and putting up lanterns. Chinese New Year lasts for about 15 days.

This is what me and my family do on Chinese New Year this year. We went to Chinatown and we got toys and we got clothes. The clothes I got was a peppa pig dress and my sister got a Chinese dress. I went to my family friend Carl's house on Chinese New Year's eve for dinner and I had rice with chicken soup.

I spend time with my family like talking and being nice to each other. I got a red envelope from my Dad and he gave me 20 dollars and Carl gave me 50 dollars.

In my opinion Chinese New Year is a very good holiday to spend time with your family. I hope next year will be a awesome Chinese New Year. I also want to know if you celebrate Chinese New Year.

Happy Chinese New Year to all !
