Scientific Argument - What Created a Channel on Mars

For my science class, we are wrapping up our first unit (geology on Mars), and were given the task to write a scientific argument "letter" about a specific channel on Mars based on all of the information we learned during the unit. Dear Universal Space Agency,  I have figured out what formed the mystery channel on Mars. The evidence we discovered supports the claim that flowing water created the channel. Below is my evidence & reasoning to support the flowing water claim. My first piece of evidence are the satellite images of channels formed on Earth by flowing water. The images of the Earth channels show curves and branches, similar to how the mystery channel on Mars looks. As both Mars & Earth are similar rocky planets, having a similar shaped channel could mean that they were created by the same geologic process (in this case, water). My second piece of evidence is the flowing water model lab, and how the water channel held its shape even after water stopped flowi

2022 Reflection Part 2

Continuing on from my last post, a 2022 wrap up/reflection, my 2022 summer is probably the most memorable so far. I spent the majority of my summer at Monte Verde Day Camp, where I have been going since I was six, but am now way more mature and old. Because of this, I am now more able to talk to the counselors, and am almost like an assistant with kids and running the camp. I made many new friends this summer, and a few even went to the upcoming school I was new to. My summer was honestly so much fun, we went to many amusement park field trips, and I spent my 12th birthday with all of my friends and counselors there. When I wasn't at Monte Verde, I was either at FECC summer review school, or in Hawaii!!!! FECC is more for younger kids, so being the oldest there made things pretty boring (which is why I switched to Monte Verde). One of the funniest memories I have of 2022 is during the 4th of July block party in my neighborhood. We were getting ready to see the fireworks, and my cl

2022 Reflection Part 1

The new year is finally here! I cannot wait for all of the fun moments & memories to be made this coming year, I feel that this is going to be a great year. However with that, we have to say goodbye to 2022. Personally, it was a great year for me for many different reasons, and I am sad to be leaving it. One of the main reasons 2022 was such a great year for me is because of my friends. As I ended elementary school and headed into a different middle school than all of my elementary friends, it was a new, fresh start for me. I made many friends quickly at my new school, and they all helped me feel very welcome. With them, I also had my elementary friends for the first few months of 2022. I loved how our friendships were back then, but I also love the more mature middle school friendships I have made. Overall, I had a huge increase of the amount of friends because of middle school, and all of my friends the past year had a huge impact on my year & why it went so well. Another re

Cambodia (History Class)

Recently, for my history class, we watched an informative video and learned about Cambodia, more specifically around the time of the Angkor Empire. Cambodia is not one of the main units we are supposed to cover in 7th grade, however my teacher is Cambodian so we got to learn about his culture and lifestyle.   A fter watching the short documentary film centered around Peter Lee's discoveries of Cambodia & the Angkor empire, I have gained new understandings and insights about current & past life in Cambodia.  The first thing I learned about Cambodia is that the Angkor Empire dominated & controlled Southeast Asia for over 600 years. As the empire lasted so long, I wonder what suddenly caused the ruling to fall. I also learned about how water is "treated" and how sacred water is in Cambodia. When hiking to certain mountains, the Phnom Kulen for example, splashing water on yourself at the top acts as a blessing & sanctifies the person. Cambodia also faces mons

My 2023 New Years Goals

2023 is finally here! I still find that crazy - I will be a teenager this year, enter my final year of middle school, and become annoying to my parents! Seriously though, time really has flown by, 2022 felt so short. With the new year here, it is time to set new goals to work towards the entire year. This year, my resolutions are similar to the past two years, a few large goals for each of my activities in life (school, sports, etc.). This year, for my academic/school related goals, I want to end the first semester of my seventh grade year with all A's, earn all A's in the second semester, and earn A's and B's in eighth grade. So far, my grades are all A pluses, with one A, so the current semester should be achievable. I want to accomplish this goal by completing all my homework (preferably on time) and studying just a little bit for exams, as too much studying makes me forget things. For my ice skating related goals, I want to pass my intermediate moves in the field t
