Volcanoes Vs Tsunamis - Which is more powerful? (Argument Essay)

The power of a tsunami is equivalent to over 150,000 extremely power nuclear bombs. All natural disasters are extremely dangerous and harmful, however, volcanoes and tsunamis are dangerous on another level. Between volcanoes and tsunamis, tsunamis cause more damage and destruction, leading to more disadvantages than advantages.

One reason tsunamis are more dangerous than volcanoes is because they create a huge amount of short term effects, or effects that happen right when a tsunami strikes. For instance, tsunamis can force people to evacuate their homes at a very short notice. With all the people running around, it causes a lot of chaos and many people become lost (Source 2).  Additionally, tens of thousands of houses and buildings are demolished by the powerful, mad waves caused by tsunamis. Over 750,000 houses were destroyed as a result of a single tsunami, showing how powerful and dangerous they can be (Source 2). Furthermore, tsunamis cause a lot of damage to the environment. From snapping trees in half to ruining farmland, tsunamis have a huge negative impact on our environment (Source 2). Above all, tsunamis cause a massive amount of deaths, more than 20,000 to be realistic. Many of those deaths are caused because of drowning, injuries from destroyed places, and/or being “washed” away (Source 2). The amount of short term effects tsunamis cause is huge because of how dangerous their massive waves can be.

Along with all the short term effects, tsunamis also cause many disastrous long term effects. For example, all the houses and buildings destroyed by tsunamis have to be rebuilt, whether it’s sooner or later. When rebuilding a building or house, not only does it take a lot of money, and not only does it take a lot of time, but it also takes a lot of people to work on the construction (More workers = people paid and more people paid = less money for more important things) (Source 2). Tsunamis also cause extensive damage to agricultural land such as crops, plants, and animals. When a tsunami destroys buildings, it is possible that some chemicals can escape and flow into farmlands. The toxic chemicals are deadly to animals and can destroy all the crops and plants grown (Source 2). Finally, tsunamis can destroy power plants, power lines, and almost anything related to power. This is extremely dangerous because it can lead to many deaths (electrocution), harmful gasses and substances can be released into the air (making it harmful to breathe), and power outages (making it hard to live our daily lives) (Source 2). The long term effects of tsunamis can lead to disastrous endings if not taken care of correctly.

It is true that volcanoes are dangerous because of the crazy high heat of the lava, blinding ashes, and deadly gasses, however, tsunamis are capable of causing a lot more damage than a volcano can.

Tsunamis and volcanoes are both extremely dangerous and powerful natural disasters, however, tsunamis are capable of causing more damage and destruction than volcanoes. Tsunamis can cause both short term and long term damage making them super vicious and dangerous. Even though tsunamis are more dangerous than volcanoes, we still need to be aware of them since they can still cause a lot of damage - just not AS much as tsunamis.
