Short figure skating essay

For the past few decades, Figure skating has grown and became one of the most beautiful sports out there. From the huge jumps to the majestic spins, figure skating has grown and thrived so much. According to the web, Figure skating has been a thing since 3000 BC. It started with a little ice pond into a huge Olympic sport but it took a long time to grow. The sport started when people used horse and cow bones to make skates and it turned into amazing high quality steel and leather skates. Not to mention all the amazing jumps and spins created. When ice skating first started, people just skated around not doing jumps or spins but that had started to change in some time. There are 6 single jumps and the axel being the hardest with 1 and a half rotations in the air. When people first did jumps, no one thought triples and quads were possible but people proved they were possible. Spins are another big part of skating. There are 3 basic spin positions but people have mad variations and combination spins. The ONLY spin that is named after a person is called a Belillman spin. It is a tricky spin and was popularized by a Swiss skater named Deniese Belillman. There are so many other parts of figure skating such as pairs skating, ice dance, and synchronized skating. But just remember next time you see an ice skater performing, it is harder than it looks and takes a lot of time and practice.
