Inspiring Monuments

For school again, I have been assigned an essay. We had to write on how monuments can inspire emotions. We had to write about the National World War II memorial and the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial. I decided to write 4 paragraphs about these 2 monuments.

As you walk into the National World War II memorial, you feel peaceful right away. You hear water splashing and leaves blowing in the wind. This inspiring monument was built to remember soldiers and workers who risked their lives for our freedom. Monuments can inspire emotions.

First, the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial is a monument that inspires visitors who come. The author states, there is a 30 foot sculpture of Dr. King that shows a determined expression on his face. This shows how determined he was for everyone to have equal rights. According to the text, the statue was carved from a stone called “The stone of hope” and “The Mountain of despair”. Some of Dr. King's most inspiring quotes are inscribed in the stone. Builders did this to inspire visitors who come to the memorial. Lastly, the statue is surrounded by cherry trees and splashing water to give you a sense of peace. The Martin Luther King Jr. memorial was built to honor a great man who changed our country forever.

Another memorial that was built is called the National World War II memorial and it was built to honor the brave soldiers and people that fought for our country. According to the text, there are 54 columns that represent every state and territory during the war. This shows that many people from many places worked together during the war. The author states, there are brass plaques around the memorial that tell a story of how workers and soldiers worked together during the war. Lastly, around the memorial are about 4,048 stars that each represent 100 soldiers or workers killed. This means there were more than 400,000 soldiers and workers that were killed during the war. Many families and people risked their lives for the freedom of our country. The National World War II is dedicated to the brave soldiers and workers that helped make our country free.

In conclusion, monuments can inspire emotion. The Martin Luther King Jr. memorial and the National World War II memorial are 2 monuments that remind people of the great things people did. Monuments help us learn about the past when almost everything was different.
