All about the Tlingit Native American tribe

I had to do a school project on the Tlingit Native American tribe. I will be writing the exact same essay but I will be fixing a few things. I liked learning about their climate, main resources, and their food.

The Tlingit tribe lived in what is now called Sitka, Alaska which had many mountains but the coastal Tlingit tribes lived on beaches and islands in the southeastern Alaska Panhandle. According to Indians.org the climate was humid but on the beach where coastal tribes lived had heavy rainfall. Since there was heavy rainfall for the coastal tribes it was more like Seattle according to nsew.org.

The Tlingit’s main source of food was Salmon along with clams, shellfish, and berries. Their main recourse was trees and wood that they used to make their famous totem poles. They also used wood and cedar to make canoes or dugouts to travel around. They used cedar bark to make skirts, capes, and coats. They lived in cedar-plank houses that were made of red cedar trees and bark.

Almost all Tlingit people speak English today, but some Tlingit people, especially older people, also speak their native Tlingit language. Tlingit is a complicated language with many sounds that don't exist in English.

Tlingit men caught fish and sea mammals from their canoes. They also hunted deer, mountain goats, and birds. Some Tlingit tribes, who lived further inland, hunted bigger animals like caribou and moose. Tlingit women gathered shellfish, seaweed, berries, and roots. Some Tlingit people were fishermen and they used harpoons, bone fishhooks, and wooden fish traps to catch fish. Some Tlingit people were also artists and they are known for their baskets, totem poles, and Chlikat robes and other weavings. I learned these fun facts from the site bigorrin.org

As you can see, I learned many interesting facts about the Tlingit tribe. But the most interesting facts I learned were that they used a lot of cedar wood to make many things they needed, also that they mostly ate salmon.
