Book review on finding the edge part 5
I really enjoy reading books but one of my favorite books
has to be Finding the Edge by Karen Chen who is a US National Champion in
Figure Skating!! Her book is awesome and it tells about her life and how it was
when she was growing up.
Karen was a good student and she would always practice her
jumps and spins off the ice. Her mom even set up a camera so that Karen could
practice her double axel. She could then watch herself and find and fix any
mistakes.
Karen started her intermediate season in 2011 around Santa
Rosa for a skating showcase. She really liked the theme of the rink because it
was snoopy themed. It was more of a showcase and not a competition so skaters
just get used to being in the spotlight so they are not that nervous when it is
an actual competition. Karen loved the song “The Gold Pond” and she did her
show to that.
When Karen finished her showcase she won her showcase and
she got recalled that night which means you can skate your program again and
you can win a prize. After she skated the judges announced a different girls
name and Karen was disappointed. She asked herself “How come she won and I
didn’t win”? And then later she told her mom “it is just an award I will win
nationals and that is even better.”
For the second straight season Karen win the Central pacific
regionals as an intermediate skater. Since she won Regional’s she qualified for
the US Junior Championships held in Salt Lake City in Utah.
In my opinion Karen is a very talented and good skater. I
also think that she trains and works very hard to achieve what she has done. I
wish that I would be like Karen and be able to skate and train a lot so that I
would be good at ice skating.
