My Writing class

Even though it is summer break my parents still want me to learn so they sent me to this powerhouse writing class. I really enjoy it and I learned a lot of things that I have not learned before.

The class is with Cerritos College but since we are still in quarantine we do it online. The class is 1 hour and 45 minutes from 10:00-11:45. Our class is lead by William Holmes or Mr. Holmes. He is very nice and funny.

Usually our schedule is we first go into zoom and he takes attendance. Then we look at context clues and try to find the definition of a highlighted word. The words he gives us are very challenging and not used a lot in conversations.

After context clues we look at shades of meaning. So our teacher would give us 2 words that are basically the same and so we have to find the difference and similarities between the 2. They usually are pretty hard to figure out the differences.

Usually we would write a writing sample. So our teacher gives us a theme and we have to write 5-7 sentences on our answer. Our teacher tells us to SHOW the reader you favorite food etc.

After our writing sample our teacher would give us corrections and sometimes we would rewrite the paragraph. If we don’t do that we would have to write about a different theme. But for the last few days we were diagramming the plot of our favorite movie.

On the 3^rd day our teacher taught us the outline for a 5 paragraph persuasive essay. The outline is kind of complicated but if you write very well you should know the outline by heart.

Lastly at the end of the day our teacher would give us a joke of the day. So he would make up a joke and we would try to figure out the joke. Some of them would be very funny but some of them he would admit were kind of lame.

Do you think that this class is good? I think that it is amazing because Mr. Holmes is nice but he makes sure that we do everything good and right. He also checks our work every time we write something. Since the class was only 2 weeks we could not get to a 5 paragraph essay but he encourages us to keep writing.
