Book review about Cilla Lee-Jenkins

Do you want to know what happened in the story Cilla Lee-Jenkins? I really like the book and it is now one of my favorite books. It is funny and has some sad and happy parts.

The author of this book is Susan Tan and the Illustrator is Dana Wulfekotte. Cilla is actually the nickname of her real name is Priscilla Lee-Jenkins. The book is kind of long and it has 238 pages Cilla is 50% Chinese and 50% Caucasian. Cilla wants to be a Future Author Extraordinaire.

The book is about different challenges she has faced in her life. It also tells us some things happening in her life.

One challenge she has to face is that she was bald until she was 5. Once each year her cousin Helen comes to spend one month at her Grandma and Grandpa Jenkins house. She goes to a special camp for people that play music. Her grandparents throw Helen a party with her friends from the camp but they are mean and since Cilla is bald one of Helen’s friends says “what princess is bald”.

Cilla has 7 total people in her family (for now). She has her mom, her dad, her grandma and Grandpa Jenkins, Her nai nai (grandmother in Chinese), her ye ye (grandpa in Chinese), and herself Priscilla.

The second challenge she has to face is that her mom is having another baby but when Cilla looks at the baby picture (when the baby is still in her moms stomach) she calls it The Blob. Cilla’s plan is to write a book and become a bestselling author before the baby is born so her parents won’t forget about her because her friend Colleen told her once a baby is born that’s all they want to talk about.

Her mom then tells Cilla that the baby will be born near birthday. The next day Cilla tells her friend Colleen that her mom told her the baby will be born near her birthday and then Colleen seems Angry/sad. The reason Colleen is sad/angry is because her grandma got hurt last night very bad. She is very sad and a few days later Colleen says sorry because she was acting rude to her and ignoring what Cilla said.

Another challenge is that Cilla does not know how to read when she went to her 1st grade! So she has to go to a special class that teaches her how to read. But she has to miss the fun arts and crafts to learn how to read.

When Halloween comes Cilla and Colleen talk about their Halloween costume. But Sasha hears them and tells them she is going to be the same thing. Cilla was going to be Selena moon but since Sasha took her costume she decided to be the Selena moon book.

Near Cilla’s Birthday her grandpa asks to go on a walk with Cilla. He also says that every Sunday you should dress formally and walk around the park. When Cilla gets home she goes inside and that is when she gets a surprise birthday party with almost her whole class. Her present is a desk for her to write her stories.

I think the book is very good. It is exciting when Cilla overcomes her challenges. In the story Cilla is a very bright girl because she helps people. I would rate the book a 5 out of 5 stars because it is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
