Ice-skating Competition


On Sunday, November 24, 2019, I had my first solo ice skating competition! I had a lot of fun and even got a trophy!

The competition took place at Lakewood Ice Rink. It is a really big rink with three sheets of ice. I completed free skate 6 with the song Feel It Still by Portugal the Man. I competed against four people and got 5th place (last place). I got a turkey trophy and a tag that has my name on it. It was the 4th Annual Compete USA Competition.

The jumps I had are two axels with one and a half revolution jumps. One flip jump with a one revolution toe jump, and two waltz jump – half loop salchow. I also had a step sequence with kicks, toe toe toe’s, turns, spread eagles, and stag jumps. I met all the requirements which are five jumps, two spins, and a step sequence for my level. I think I did really well on my competition. Even though I did not win 1st place, my mom was proud of me and bought me How to Dork Your Dairy book.
I was a little nervous at first, but I got over it. My friends Jade, Katelin, and Casey also completed, but in a different level.

In my opinion, it is a little scary competing for the first time. I wish the other people I competed against did not cheat because their skill level is a lot higher than the level they competed.

I did a interesting research about Michelle Kwan. Michelle Kwan was born 1980 in Torrance, California. Her ethic is Chinese and her parents were from Hong Kong. Michelle Kwan started skating at the age of 5 and went to Ice Castle Training Center in Lake Arrowhead in California. She was 18 years old when she went to the Olympics games. Michelle Kwan liked to skate a lot. I think Michelle Kwan has good performance because she is calm and relaxed. Chinese New Year

I am going to write about Chinese New Year because my parents come from China and Chinese new year is February 16th. Here are some facts I learned about Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year is also called Lunar New Year. Chinese New Year was created to welcome spring but Chinese New Year does not happen on the same day every year because not all the time the groundhog sees his shadow. There are 12 symbols for the Chinese zodiac. The 12 symbols are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, rooster, Dog and Pig. The year of 2018 is the year of the Dog. I was born in 2010 and I am a Tiger and my sister was born in 2014 and she is a Horse. Chinese New Year is very important because we welcome a new symbol. A Chinese New Year tradition is putting out fireworks and putting up lanterns. Chinese New Year lasts for about 15 days. This is what me and my family do on Chinese New Year this year.
