Columbus Day

As we all know Monday was Columbus day.This is why we celebrate Columbus day.

On this day we honor Christopher Columbus.We honor him because he set foot in the western Hemisphere,his landing at San Salvador Island in what is now very important. Columbus day is a holiday because not only do we honor him, but we honor many people who did the same thing as Columbus. On Monday to celebrate you can, talk to your family and show facts with them. You can make a sailboat craft because he loves sailboats, and you can go sailing. On Monday i went to my friend Ivy’s house and we went to her mom’s friend’s house together.

In my opinion, it is a special holiday because we remember important people. I think it is a cool holiday because most people have a day off to relax. I also think you can learn a lot of interesting facts.

I did a interesting research about Michelle Kwan. Michelle Kwan was born 1980 in Torrance, California. Her ethic is Chinese and her parents were from Hong Kong. Michelle Kwan started skating at the age of 5 and went to Ice Castle Training Center in Lake Arrowhead in California. She was 18 years old when she went to the Olympics games. Michelle Kwan liked to skate a lot. I think Michelle Kwan has good performance because she is calm and relaxed. I think Kwan is a good ice skater because she made it all the way to the Olympics games. I think i am a good ice skater because i am in Basic 6. I would like to learn how to ice skate like Kwan. I learned some interesting facts about Michelle Kwan and I would like to accomplish something like her.

Chinese New Year

I am going to write about Chinese New Year because my parents come from China and Chinese new year is February 16th. Here are some facts I learned about Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year is also called Lunar New Year. Chinese New Year was created to welcome spring but Chinese New Year does not happen on the same day every year because not all the time the groundhog sees his shadow. There are 12 symbols for the Chinese zodiac. The 12 symbols are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, rooster, Dog and Pig. The year of 2018 is the year of the Dog. I was born in 2010 and I am a Tiger and my sister was born in 2014 and she is a Horse. Chinese New Year is very important because we welcome a new symbol. A Chinese New Year tradition is putting out fireworks and putting up lanterns. Chinese New Year lasts for about 15 days. This is what me and my family do on Chinese New Year this year.
